The International Organization for Migration (IOM) in the Gambia has confirmed that 15 Gambian migrants on Tuesday 29th January, 2019 returns from German to The Gambia. Alazas Miko IOM Communication Officer revealed that his organization (IOM) is not involved in the movement of flights for returnee migrants coming from German He added that the IOM is committed in providing immediate assistance to returnee migrants upon their arrival, he asserted.
“At the recent arrival on Tuesday, we have assisted 15 returnee migrants from German and gave each €65.” He disclosed that the IOM will also provide the returnee migrants with reintegration assistance.
Asked to give names and condition of those returnees migrants Alazas responded by saying “we are not in a position to reveal personal details of returnee migrants to the media, due to the vulnerability of their situation”, he remark.
As part of our assisted voluntary return program under the EU-IOM Joint Initiative for Migrant Protection and Reintegration. “Since January 2017, IOM has assisted in the voluntary return of over 3,600 Gambians stranded in Libya, Niger, and other parts of the continent.”
We have assisted a total 24 returned migrants (15 from Tuesday, and 9 from Thursday).
