Disables are Arrested for Begging Hon. Ndey Yasin Secka

Honorable Ndey Yasin Secka Nominated Member of the National Assemble and The chairperson of the Gambia Organization for the Visually Impaired (GOVI) argued that people with disabilities are not protected in the country. Hon Secka said members of her constituency (disables) are arrested for begging.
Honorable Secka made the statement at the recent Launching of the Commonwealth partnership for Democracy, supporting political parties and advancing inclusive accountable democracy in the Commonwealth held at Ocean Bay Hotel in Bakau.
She added that some people with disability still don’t have the confidence in themselves. “We say thanks to Allah when few philanthropists in the 1970s came together and make it possible for people with disability to go to school”.
She therefore call on the political parties to come together with their manifestos to involved the people with disabilities; adding that even the school curriculum do not have sign language and she called for the introduction of sign languages in school.
Hon. Secka added that people nowadays are not extending support to the persons with disability.
Delivering the Launching statement Honorable Halifa Sallah the National Assembly member for Serekunda who also doubles as the chairperson of the Inter-party committee spoke at length on the importance of the launch of the Commonwealth Partnership for democracy project.
He said the project is to engage Gambia in transition adding that is design to enhance the battle of marginalization.
He dilated on the significance of freedom of thoughts saying without freedom of thoughts there cannot be information and no direction towards freedom of expression”
Hon. Sallah emphasize that there is no disabled person, he said disabled person is someone who cannot see the reality “as long as your mind is steady you are not disabled but the person who never see reality is the disabled one” he said.
