President Adama Barrow has named Dr. Baba Galleh Jallow as the Executive Secretary of the Truth Reconciliation and Reparations Commission.
The president made the appointment after consultations with the Minister of Justice and the Public Services Commission and the appointment took effect from 1st February 2018.
Reacting to the news of his appointment, Dr. Jallow remarked: “needless to say this is a very challenging and heavy responsibility to assume.”
“For that reason, I ask for everyone’s kind support, understanding and prayers. I believe that together we can make this work the very best way possible. Thank you all and God bless The Gambia.”
Dr Baba Galleh holds a Ph. D degree in African History from the University of California at Davis, a Master’s degree in Liberal Studies from Rutgers University and a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Political Science from the University of Sierra Leone. Prior to his appointment, Dr Jallow served as Assistant Professor, Department of History at La Salle University in the United States of America. Many Gambians would remember him as an Editor in Chief of ‘The Observer’ newspaper and a co-founder of the ‘Independent’ newspaper.
