By  Alkali Cham

The Public Relation Director of the Gambia Action Party Mr Abubacarr Bayo speaking to the Daily News Reporter on a  wide range of issues stated their party’s position on the President’s recent state visit to Niger in the height of corona misery just to attend ECOWAS regional submit .

The Pubic Relation Director mentioned that virtual conference system could have been the right venue to preside over this particular ECOWAS regional summit, considering how serious the corona virus hits the African continent. He said instead of being physically present in gathering which has a tendency or chance for one to contact covid 19 thereby putting the health of the people at risk.

He stated that the ECOWAS regional summit  may be a chance for  their partners to conclude that the covid 19 virus is not really affecting Africa as many of its leaders travel out of their country just to attend a summit  .

He expressed that the President is not quarantined when he returned from submit and he is not totally different from those that are being put to such measures for the good health of the larger population.

He went further to mentioned that the Government which is serious and has the wish to protect further escalation of the virus will not use state funds to travel just to attend a regional summit.

He added that our  health sector is weak and these funds,  he suggested could have been used to boast the national health and covid 19 respond programme which clearly can enable the work of the health workers and other front liners efficient.

The GAP Public Relation Director went further to blast the government for the closure of the markets which he stated that is the only source of livelihood of the women vendors and challenged the government to revisit the measures.
