In a view to promote peace and unity in the Kanifing Municipal Council, Mayor Talib Ahmed Bensouda sponsored Mayor’s Tournament, making him the first to do so in the history of KMC.
The 2019 Mayor’s tournament reached its final stage and kicked off took off Friday 3rd May at the Serrekunda East Park. LatruKunda Yiringanya Ward took advantage over Bakau Newtown Ward in 1 – 0 win to lift the trophy.
The final was played on at neutral ground Friday afternoon played at the Serekunda East mini stadium.
The interesting final was witnessed by many important dignitaries, including the former VP Hon. Ousainou Darboe, NAMs, Mayor KMC, GFF representatives, Political leaders, Artiest, Councilors and Staff of KMC and football lovers across KMC.
It was an interesting final as both teams had a perfect starting; Bakau Newtown created more attacking options and goal scoring chances in the first half but were unable to capitalize on them.
In the second half, Latrikunda pushed hard to balance the game, Bakary Barrow who just entered in the second half score a brilliant goal in 56th minutes of the game, which gave his side the lead and the game ended 1 – 0 in favor of Latrikunda.
The Winners Latrikunda Yiringanya went home with One hundred and fifty thousand Dalasi (D150, 000), the Runner-up Bakau Newtown went home with One hundred thousand Dalasi (D100, 000), Old Jeshwang came 3rd and went home with thirty thousand Dalasi (D30, 000) and Faji Kunda came 4th and went home with fifteen thousand Dalasi (15, 000).
Head coach of Bakau Newtown Ward, Abdoulie Bojang reiterated that his players did well in the first half but they didn’t capitalize on their chances which he said courses their loss in the game, he added that the his opponent score the only chance they got.
Bojang said their participation in the Mayors tournament is not because of money, adding that it is because of the initiative of togetherness the Mayor is advocating for unity by bringing all the youths of KMC together under one platform. “this is football sometimes is disappointing, but I am very happy to see the youths of KMC coming together”.
Madam Binta Janneh Jallow Bakau Newtown Ward also gives similar statement while saying that the most important thing is to bring the youths together.
