The Turkish Airlines have launched Istanbul-Banjul direct flight on Monday 26th November 2018 at the Banjul International Airport, VIP Lounge.
The ceremony started after the first flight TK 599 landed in Banjul from Istanbul and this mark the operation of mutual flight between the two countries.
According to organizers this will strengthen the partnership between Istanbul and Banjul and the flight will come twice a week and it will be in connection with Dakar flight.
Banjul is the 54th destination of their network in Africa.
Hon Kemeseng Jammeh Gambian Ambassador to turkey commended the government of the two countries for the tremendous achievement. He describes the Airlines as a valuable business especially for the GCCA and will increase the number of tourist visit in the Gambia.
He said Turkey has been an important and consistent partner to the Gambia historically, politically and the bilateral relationship of the two countries and will ensure the mutual benefit of both countries.
Ambassador Jammeh highlighted that the Airline will support the connectivity of Ankara and Banjul while commending the government of both countries for their efforts and the management of Turkish Airlines.
On his part H.E Ismail Sefa Yuceer the Turkish’s Ambassador to the Gambia also reemphasized that the Airlines is not only important but will also contribute to the tourism sector noting the flight demonstrate the value Turkey attach to the Gambia.
“I am happy to welcome you all to the inaugural of Turkey’s direct flight to Banjul and I know it will connect Banjul to Istanbul and the rest of the world”.
The Secretary General and head of Civil Service Hon. Ebrima Camara said the Gambia believes that the direct flight is of mutual beneficiary especially in the economic sector and will enable greater movement of people.
He thank the Barrow led government for providing all the necessary support the Airline needed and for making it successful for them
Dr. Ablie Jammeh Director General Gambia Civil Aviation Authority thanked the two head of states for making this happen saying Gambia was not connected to the world. He said Turkish Airlines is one of the best destinations in the world.
