The UDP MP for Serre Kunda West Constituency, Hon Madi M.K.Ceesay has paid tribute to fallen heroes like Solo Sandeng who lost their lives “in the hands of APRC and former President Jammeh’s enablers.
According to him, fallen heroes including Sandeng, late Lang Marong, late Solo Krummah, late Ebrima Janko Ceesay and late Femi Peters all lost their lives as a consequence of their arrests, detention and torture met to them by the Jammeh regime. Hon Ceesay made the tribute while addressing a political rally held at Manjai/Kotu Ward organised by the UDP as part of the ongoing local government election campaigns. The MP called on UDP militants and supporters to vote for the parties’ candidates. Hon Ceesay says the foundation of the change that Gambians are enjoying today, is largely a result of the sacrifices made by the above named late heroes and many others who survive the maltreatment. He said it was when the youths of the UDP under the leadership Solo Sandeng took to the streets and got themselves arrested leading to the immediate killing of Mr. Sandeng, that prompted the party’s leader and some of his executives to protest. Ceesay recalled how the UDP leader and some members of his executive went on a peaceful demonstration and how the police got them arrested with force and in the process some members were wounded.
Hon. Ceesay urged the UDP supporters to come out in their numbers on April 12 and vote massively for their candidate Aba Gibba and the following month to vote in UDP’s mayoral candidate Talib Bensouda.
Speaking at the rally, Aba Gibba promised his ward members with development projects saying he has the experience and knowledge. He said he is a development worker and that he is the best candidate for the Manjai /Koltu Ward.
M.S. Demba, the constituency organising secretary reminded the contestants that they must remember that they are sent to the council for the interest of the ward. He warned that if the candidates fail to represent the interest of the ward come next elections they would be voted out. He stresses that UDP militants should vote in for all their candidates so that they can move their wards foward.
Sanjally Darboe, UDP deputy regional coordinator also advised party militants that members of the UDP must take the local government elections very seriously and massively vote for their candidates to make a change.
Others speakers included constituency chair Toffie Kanuteh, youth leader Mbaba Sankareh, Alieu Kora and Mariama Bah.
