Barrow Rescind Appointment of Vice Chair IEC

The leadership of the United Democratic Party (UDP), after demanding  for a justifiable reasons for the IEC’s  deferral of the voter registration exercise indefinitely when elections are just under a year to go; has   In the same vein, it has come to the notice of the UDP the appointment of Mr. Oremi Joiner as Deputy IEC Chair.

In a strong statement, the UDP condemns the illegality of this appointment as a violation of and contravention of Section 42 (5) (c) of the 1997 Constitution of The Gambia.

“We demand  for the revocation of this appointment with immediate effect.  It is an open secret that the said Mr. Oremi Joiner is a co-opted member of the National People’s Party’s (NPP) Banjul Regional Executive Committee.” Darboe said

The UDP calls on all patriotic Gambians to condemn these acts of illegitimacy and demands the IEC further explains the reasons for such unprofessional and unconstitutional actions being taken when we have only months to go to the Presidential elections of The Gambia.

Moment later , Barrow came up with a press release informing the public that he has rescind the appointment of Mr. Joiner due to the emerging evidence that contradicts Joiner’s appointment. The President, the release concludes that the President regrets to rescind the appointment with immediate effects.

Editor’s Note:  The President needs to avoid such as this is not the first time. The Baboucar Suwareh’s case was one of this kind.
