IEC Continues to Receive Nomination from Aspirants

As the nomination continues for the December 2021 polls the Independent Electoral Commission of The Gambia has received 13 nomination papers from aspirant presidential candidates as of yesterday.
The requirements for Nomination include: The person must be a Gambian Citizen of at least 30 years old with a minimum educational qualification of Senior Secondary School.
The candidate must have also been resident in the Gambia five years preceding 4th December 2021 and should be nominated by 5000 voters; at least 200 from each region.
The Presidential Candidate must also have sworn asset declaration with a tax clearance certificate and a deposit sum of D10,000. Other requirements include, a symbol, colour and photograph and strict adherence to IEC Code of Campaign Candidate
Of recent the leader of the united Democratic Party Ousainou Darboe is also among does that submit their nomination papers to the IEC.
Immediately after filing his papers, Darboe was escorted by a huge crowd on a caravan tour which ended at the Independence Stadium where thousands more waited to take part in a rally that lasted late in the night.
Earlier before that the Gambia for All Party Informed the IEC of its leader Bakary Dabo’s decision to back the UDP and therefore did not need to file his papers. Similarly, the All People’s Party, APP, leader Dr Ebrima Bai Biran Jagne informed the commission of his withdrawal. The party recently signed a coalition with CA and GMC.
Also to file his papers was Mai Ahmad Fatty of GMC who, accompanied by his mother, said the day symbolised the success of the battle fought in 2016 to liberate the country and guarantee freedom and rights of the people of The Gambia.
”What lies ahead now is not about crowd competition but how to tackle the issues confronting the nation in all areas. This is the beginning of the journey to end medical tourism of our citizens in Senegal and other places and to provide the needs of our people,” Mr Fatty said.
Meanwhile, the nomination process continues as Gambia Democratic Congress of Mamma Kandeh, who is newly married to a faction of the APRC, and Dr Ismalia Ceesay of CA, and two independent also file their nomination papers yesterday.
