After the Minister of Local Government and Lands, Musa S. Drammeh, in a letter dated 2nd August 2021 calling on the Council to rescind its recommendation for the suspension of the services of its CEO and Finance Director as well as allow them to resume work following their alleged involvement in the D12 million scandal is now ready to is inspect the alleged scandal.
The Ministry of Local Government and Lands has again sent another letter informing the Mayor of KMC that it will inspect the fraud allegation at KMC.
The letter said ‘‘Following the purported fraud allegation leveled against the Chief Executive Officer and some staff of Council, I write to inform you that the Ministry will deploy a team of inspectors with the sole purpose of establishing the following:
‘‘A loan amounting to D12, 000, 000.00 (Twelve million Dalasi) to acquire a piece of land measuring 100x 100m; Forgery of a letter captioned “Guarantee (Purchase of Land Advance Agreement) -KMCSWA dated 23 June 2021;’’
Ministry added it will also inspect the Salary advance to Councilors; Renewal of staff contracts, Deductions from 186 staff for plots of land allocated to them; and Solicitation of and receipt of a bribe of D30, 000.00 by the CEO from ALMOT;
‘‘All contracts awarded (ongoing and completed including ECOTECH): Unilaterally stoppage of deductions; Staff appointments from July 2020 to date: During the course of the exercise, the team will be meeting members of the SMT’’ the letter stated.
The CEO has been accused of fraudulently obtaining a loan of D12 million from AGIB bank on behalf of staff association without the acknowledgement and authorization of the Mayor and entire senior staff of the Council.
