Police Re-arrest 3yrs Jotna Executive, ‘After State Withdrew Case’

By Dawda Baldeh

Police has re-arrested 3yrs Jotna Executive Members after the state withdrew their case on 10 February 2020.

Executive members of the pressure group were re-arrested by the police in Banjul this morning , following the state filing  to the court calling  for their discharge.

Speaking to the Daily news, Hagi Suwaneh, PRO of 3 years Jotna  said, “we came to the court in the morning. The state brought a file, saying they are withdrawing the case.

He said, the case was withdrawn  from court. When they withdrew the case, we stepped out. After, we were arrested by the police and taking to the crime unit.

Right now, we are at the crime unit as I’m speaking with you,” Hagi Suwaneh, PRO of the group confirmed to the Daily news.

The re-arrested members included Abdoulie Njie, Ebrima Kitim Jarju, Sheriffo Sonko, Hagi Suwareh , Fanta Mballow, Karim Touray, Yankuba Darboe and Muctarr Ceesay who were charged with three counts of unlawful assembly leading to their protest in January 2020.

The pressure group took the streets on 26 January 2020, and was cracked down by the security forces leading to the arrest of its nine (9) top executive members.

President Barrow choosing to serve a five year term as stated in the 1997 Constitution instead of the Coalition 2016 campaign promise, which states  that if Barrow is elected, he will only serve a 3-year mandate  and call for election.

“The police told us the order is from the top. I believe the top is no other person but Adama Barrow Suwaneh told the Daily news.

“They have seen that they are losing the case and they don’t want to wait to hear the final decision from the Judge”, he said.

The government wants to see us convicted by the court and because they don’t see that, they plan to withdraw the case and plan to re-arrest us and label evil allegations against us.

The arrest team, told us the order is from top and they never tell us who they are referring to as the top, he added.

According to source who told the Daily news that Barrow is worse than Ex-President Jammeh and he want to see us convinced and ended in prison.

All what we are yearning for, is to hold the president accountable to the promised he made to the Gambian in 2016.

Editor’s Note: However the group were later released, the story is still developing as we go to press.
