UDP Expel Chairman Sonko and 2 Others Councillors

Brikama Area Council Chairman who was elected under the United Democratic Party (UDP) ticket and two other ward councillors were finally expelled from the UDP with immediate effects.

A letter dated 29th June 2020 and signed by the Senior Administrative secretary of the UDP Hon Lamin N Dibba was delivered to the Chairman Brikama Area Council Shreffo Sonko yesterday June 30th 2020.

The content of the letter reads:

“I am directed by the Central Committee of the United Democratic Party (UDP) to acknowledge the receipt of your letter dated 18th June 2020 which was in response to my letter of 10th June 2020.

The said letter was received on the 18th June 2020 by that date, the deadline on which the written explanation ought to have been delivered by you had expired and there was no reason given for not delivering the written explanation within the time prescribed.

The Central Committee of U.D.P has directed me to convey to you that notwithstanding your failure to deliver your written explanation within the period specified in the letter of 10th June 2020, it has nonetheless considered the explanation but finds no merit in it.

I am therefore directed by the U.D.P Central Committee to inform you that having failed to deliver your written explanation within the specified period and also failing to give satisfactory explanation in your letter of 18th June 2020 why you should not be expelled from the party, it has accordingly resolved to expel you from the United Democratic Party (UDP) with immediate effect.

The Central Committee of U.D.P does not henceforth recognize your membership of the party.

By a copy of this letter the Chairman Independent Electoral Commission (I.E.C), Chief Executive Officer (C.E.O) and Vice Chairman Brikama Area Council and the Governor West Coast Region are accordingly been informed of your expulsion from the United Democratic Party (UDP)  for any appropriate action they may deem to take”
