Views of Disgruntle People over Government Food Aid

By Alkali Cham

Weeks and months after government had distributed some food aid to citizen of the Gambia, many did have, but there are a lot who are still left to grumble, because they did not received a grain of rice or a cup of oil yet

These. individual Gambians   have expressed dismay over the manner the government promised food aid has been handled, some described both the registration of  the food aid and its distribution as very slow and ineffective.

The Daily news reporter at large went round and about to sound the opinion of some members of  Brufut  community over the subject matter.

Speaking to the Daily news Kebba Darboe a resident of  Brufut, said he felt discouraged since at the period of registration , as the team entrusted to register households in their community skipped many compounds on  reasons best known to them .  He slammed the entire process, accusing the team of selective treatment, he complained that since the arrival of the food aid to the community, they could not collect their share as they keep rescheduling their turn of collection.

Aja Joof a resident of Brufut, also complained that her house was skipped by the registration team  simply because she leaves in a storey building which she described as unjustifiable for her and her neighbours  to be deprived of government facilitated  food aid or support .

Salifu Touray, a resident of the same community said he has been going and coming since the announcement of the food aid but still he could not get a single grain of the supply which baffled hm.

In another vein , Ousman Jaiteh a teacher by profession and resident of Sanchaba, complained that he resides in Sanchaba,  but he was asked to report to Sukuta for his supply which he challenged as he is not a resident of Sukuta, according to him his family share should have been sent to his  place of resident which is Sanchaba not Sukuta .

According to him some members of his community have been commuting to and from Sukuta daily for their share of supply which they could not get and finally  worn out of interest  and give in the supply .

It’s quite interesting to note that government covid 19 support is nonpartisan, people in the community should get their rightful share without bending on  any difficult protocol as it’s  comes to rescue families from starvation in this difficult time  an anonymous citizen said.
