Migrant returnees from Libya called Youths Against Irregular Migration in partnership with the office of the councilor of Bundung ward has recently cleanse the Bundung Maternal and Child Health Hospital.
The event is part of a series of activities according to their 2021 work plan.
Sulayman Jammeh Councilor of Bundung ward thanked the organizers for such an initiative which he said will go a long way in complimenting their efforts. He added that such initiatives should be supported by potential stakeholders saying that’s how the country can develop.
Jammeh said the venue for the exercise is a health facility and, that is what makes it all right; this will give a clean environment as well reduce mosquitoes infestation and make the place conducive for patients.
Councilor Jammeh appeal to the government to look back on the conditions of Migrant returnees as they were frustrated and left noting if doors are not open they may still go and look for better life whilst opportunities are available in this country.
He said his office is ready to partner and support them in any way that they can, in any other activities. He said these are committed youths who want to take this country to another level.
Mustapha Sallah Secretary General of YAIM said the cleaning exercise cannot come at a better time than this as the hospital’s environment should be everyone’s concern because it is where people go to when they are sick.
Mariama Sonko the infection prevention and control coordinator at Bundum hospital on behalf of the hospital management expressed delight and appreciation to the organizers. She said the exercise is important to because hospital are supposed to be clean so as to prevent people from infections.
Sonko said this will take the hospital to another level.
This association is officially form by the youth of The Gambia that repatriated from Libya 2017.
The organization is nonprofit and non-Governmental Organization (NGO) they increase awareness on Irregular migration and help in reducing the incidence of irregular migration.
They also advocate for greater youth employment opportunities to avoid irregular migration to ensure that young people are given the opportunity to participate in decision making platforms so as to contribute their quota in national development. As well to discourage youth involvement in irregular migration, thus bringing an end to irregular migration
